What does it mean to fellowship with the Holy Spirit?
Fellowship with the Holy Spirit simply means having a relationship with the Holy Spirit. This relationship cuts across and affects every aspect of the believer’s life. This also means an association and partnership with the Spirit of God, who shares your interests at all times. In fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit, there is usually a deep reverence to the things of God. For example, you want to please God and constantly communicate with Him.
How to Fellowship with the Holy Spirit?
Fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit is not as difficult as most religious sect has painted it to be. This fellowship is likened to the way you connect with your best friend. You will discover that you are not struggling to begin a conversation or trying to impress them. Instead, you naturally flow and spend hours with them. The same goes with the Holy Spirit. Here are some ways to get your relationship with the Holy Spirit started:
Spend Quality Time Praying:
For any relationship to thrive and become healthy, then the different parties must spend quality time in communication. This same principle is still in operation for fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit. You need to spend ample time communicating via prayers. The kind of prayer needed to fellowship with the Holy Spirit is not need-based prayer. But instead, deep-intense worship, thanksgiving, and prayer in other tongues.
Feasting with the Word:
It has been proven that friendship grows when the different partners spend time in activities that create connections, e.g., eating together. To have fellowship with the Holy Spirit, you need to be a regular student of the bible. This is one of the ways that the Holy Spirit communicates truth. The Holy Spirit reveals Jesus and makes believers look more at him via the agency of the word.
Obedience to his will:
This is one of the ways to improve your relationship with the Holy Spirit. Obedience is simply agreeing to the will and voice of the Holy Spirit. It is important to note that the Holy Spirit always gives instructions regarding any matter. Scripture tells us to avoid causing the Holy Spirit to be displeased in Ephesians 4:25. For the Holy Spirit, disobedience is one of the most common ways he gets hurt. If you take the risk of obedience, you will experience the reward in that relationship.
Meditation:
Meditation is one of the lost acts lost in the body of Christ. Meditation is pondering the heart or focusing the mind on a particular object. This is one of the ways to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. When meditating, your inner man quietened the different voices that are trying to speak to you in your mind. Meditation can also be seen as deliberately focusing on specific thoughts (such as a Bible passage) and reflecting on their meaning. The sole aim of meditation is to heighten your personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Fasting:
Fasting is another way of heightening the fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Fasting is simply giving away anything that will strengthen the grip of the flesh. Your spiritual sensitivity will be high when you begin to fast from earthly materials. You will notice that you can easily hear the voice of the Holy Spirit in your heart. For example, when fasting from food, you will notice that your heart will be receptive to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Cultivating the Gift of the Spirit:
Another way of becoming intimate with the Holy Spirit is by cultivating the gift of the Holy Spirit inside of you. These gifts are given to you to become an outlet of the Holy Spirit to your world. It is important to note that the Holy Spirit can not be seen in physical form. But you are an extension of him by demonstrating his gifting’s and power. That is why it is necessary to stir up the giftings inside of you.
Going on Holy Spirit assignments:
Another way of increasing your intimacy with the Holy Spirit is by carrying out divine assignments. Some of which include praying for lost souls, going for evangelism, giving to the needy, visiting the bereaved, etc. These divine assignments are another means of hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit. Also, your voice and presence will be of great help to other people.
In conclusion, we are joined to Christ through the Holy Spirit. Thus, friendship with the Spirit is vital. We talk to Him, and He talks to us. He is our instructor. He guides. He is our inner advocate who translates our aspirations and God’s will. He empowers us to do God’s will. He convicts us of sin and calls us to repentance.
The Spirit wishes to collaborate with us in life and mission. His resources are infinite, and His strength is unstoppable. He craves our closeness. He yearns to enter the soul’s core existence. When we cooperate with Him, He comes to give us daily fruit of the Spirit. When we agree with Him, His power works in and through us.
