The Working of The Law of Faith

Just as there are physical laws, there are spiritual laws, and these spiritual laws play out in a fashion similar to physical laws. One of the most important spiritual laws is the law of faith in God. God is a spirit, but he also demands that we have belief in his existence and plans for us. The more we understand faith, the more we know God, for, without faith, it is impossible to please God. Unlike now when the knowledge of the true God has spread abroad all over the Earth, in Abraham’s time, faith in God was “a joke”. And even in the midst of all these, Abraham still trusted God.

The bible says, “by faith in God Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith” It was in the same way that Abraham received God and became the father of faith. In the synoptic gospels, we also see repeated instances where Jesus tells of the necessity of faith for miracles. Put side by side, the scripture is a compendium of cases where faith made impossibility possible.

Some Examples of The Working of The Law of Faith

Pay attention to these studies and learn one or two things about how the law of faith operates.

  1. Matthew 8: 5-13 (The Law of Faith Delivers Healing)

The centurion was not an Israelite; he had no physical relationship with Abraham, but he understood by some means that Jesus would be able to heal his servant by speaking words backed by his spiritual authority. At this declaration by the centurion, Jesus was amazed and said, “I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel” and out of his amazement was a release of the request sought by the centurion; And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go your way; and as you have believed, so be it done unto you. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

Jesus was so impressed by the centurion’s faith that he had to mention that even in the whole of Israel, he had not found anyone with so great a belief in the abilities of God. Jesus commended his faith, and through this man, we learnt that there is no distance in the spirit realm. His servant was healed immediately as though Jesus was there with him.

  1. In Mark 4: 35-41 (The Law of Faith Subdues Natural Disasters)

From Jesus’ encounter with the storm on the sea, we see that the law of faith can subdue even natural disasters. The disciples could have rebuked the sea in Jesus’ stead, but fear clouded their minds. The disciples that were fishers amongst the others must have told the tales of how some other ships have sunk in this same waters. So the natural response was fear, but that fear only opened them up to more disasters as the boat continued to be filled with water.

Whenever we read this part of scripture, we see how the disciples acted in fear, and we blame them for not acting in faith; however, we fail to know that they woke Jesus as their last resort. This action is what brought about a miracle for them. Even though the Lord stroked them for their unbelief, he still delivered them from the death that awaited them. So, as we grow in faith, we must call on Jesus when we are overwhelmed by circumstances.

  1. Luke 17:1-6 (The Law of Faith Works The Impossible)

The story in Luke 17: 1-6 is similar to that in Mark 11:22-23 and the words of Jesus himself, “Have faith in God, for assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says”. We do not need a soothsayer to reveal to us that there are times in life when problems would defy all our physical efforts. There will be times when all the logical solutions would avail nothing except we employ the use of faith.

Jesus used figurative terms like” mountains, sycamore tree, seas” to explain the magnitude of problems that faith can dissolve. He did not limit us to anything, and he has informed us that by proper utilization of the law of faith, challenges that are termed impossible would be resolved permanently.

Variables That Have Consequences On The Law Of Faith

Just as variables like mass, acceleration, magnitude, distance, height,  force, e.t.c, affect some physical laws that govern the Earth, so do certain variables affect the rule of faith and its results.

  • The Word Of God

This variable can affect the results produced by the law of faith in that the degree of your trust is directly proportional to the amount of the word of God that has been hidden in your spirit. If you have not spent time on God’s word, you would not know the promises kept there for you. You cannot trust God for healing, safety, miracles, e.t.c, if you have not found them in his word.

  • Prayer

As you pray, you crystalize faith from the word into your spirit. Prayer is the extraction process that brings out confidence from the truth you have digested in bible study. Therefore the more you pray, the more faith is built in your spirit. When you notice that you do not have enough faith to believe God for the impossible, pray the more.

  • Fear

Fear is in sharp contrast with the law of faith, and at all times, you must not allow fear to dictate what would become of you. If you allow fear to grow, you diminish faith in your heart and, consequently, your results. The experiences that other persons have had should not form your final resort. Even if you listen to their counsel and take the sense out of all they have said, do not allow yourself to be controlled by the negative experiences that others have had.

Conclusion

In the words of Smith Wigglesworth, “God would pass over a million people just to find someone who believes Him”. Faith pleases God and releases His supernatural ability. While doubt, fear and unbelief limits God and stops His power. Learn to recognize the possibilities of God that surround you, learn to reach out for the impossible, and God will always respond to your faith.
