Do you know that the Christian faith stands on the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ? Without Jesus dying on the cross, being buried, and being raised by God on the third day, there would be no Christianity.
He was not the first to die on the cross, and he was not the only one crucified in ancient times. He was not the first to be buried, nor was he the first to be raised from the dead, so why did he have such a great mark on the history of humanity.
Suppose you want to know why the figure of Christ has so much significance on the history of humanity; read to the end because, within this article, you will find answers to your questions concerning the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Some Physical Pieces Of Evidence Of His Death, Burial And Resurrection.
Many people have argued about the figure of the man Jesus who is the founder of the Christian Faith. Many people still doubt if he had ever lived, not to talk about him being a historical figure who died for the sins of the whole world, was buried, and rose again to set the one who believes in him free.
Is it just a rumor, or is it a fallacy? Is it just a cooked-up story or an older woman’s fables? This part is dedicated to answering this.
- The Testimony of both Christians and Nonchristians.
If the news of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus is only a rumor, neither Christians nor Non-Christians would have documented it?
Let us see the day of Pentecost. Peter claimed that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ fulfill what was written down in the holy scriptures (Acts 2.21-42). That God would become a man that would save them from their sins by dying on the cross. If what Peter said was a lie, the crowd’s reaction would have been different. Instead of calling him a fool, they gladly accepted and believed his words about Christ.
Jesus himself, before his death, foretold to his disciples that he must enter Jerusalem to suffer and be killed and that on the third day, he would rise from the dead (Matthew 16:21). And it was so, as he had said.
An atheist, an Oxford professor, and former skeptic C. S. Lewis, who had once doubted Jesus’ very existence, was also persuaded by the evidence for Jesus’ resurrection. He writes,
“Something perfectly new in the history of the Universe had happened. Christ had defeated death. The door that had always been locked had been forced open for the first time.”
- The Sacrificial Submission of the Apostles.
According to Acts 4, Luke recorded that Gamaliel, one of the most respected teachers and rulers of the Jews, advised them not to trouble the Christians. He cited two instances of two groups who came up with strange news and later perished alongside their followers. According to him, if the news were true, they would not be able to stop the Apostles from spreading the news of Jesus.
And because the news about Jesus being raised and alive even to this day is true, it survives the test of time and prosecution. The apostles willingly and happily died for that cause. And even today, ministers of the gospel are still risking their lives to spread the gospel.
- The Conversion of Saul of Tarsus.
Saul of Tarsus, also called Paul, was the greatest persecutor of the early church. It was recorded that The early believers greatly feared paul even after his conversion. Paul responded to some of the most intriguing questions about christ’s death, burial, and resurrection in his first letter to the Corinthians.
1 Corinthians 15:3-8
[3]For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; [4]And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: [5]And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: [6]After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some have fallen asleep. [7]After that, he was seen by James, then of all the apostles. [8]And last, of all, he was seen of me as one born out of due time.
Why a sudden change in Saul? If Jesus truly did not die, Saul would never have had a change of heart nor suffered such great persecution for Jesus.
Why Should You Believe In His Death, Burial, And Resurrection?
Without a doubt, every man born of a woman would attest to his need for a Savior. The Bible has vividly captured the reason for the need for a Savior, and there is a solid reason for a man to die to rescue all of humanity.
- All have sinned.
The reason for the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is to solve the problem of Sin. Morally, all have sinned against God (Romans 5:12). And for that, all have been condemned to eternal damnation.
- Man cannot save himself.
Every man wants to live right before the supreme God, and we all want to make it right with him. Yet, this longing desire to please an infinite and invincible creator cannot be achieved on our own. And that proves that man can not save himself from Sin.
- All need a Savior.
Man cannot save himself from the bondage of Sin, and he needs a Savior to do that. Not just a mere savior but the one who our infirmities can touch. That is why he must rely on the man Jesus Christ who has met the demand of Justice by His death, burial, and resurrection.
What Is The Implication Of Our Faith In Him?
Does the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ affect the one who believes in Him? And to what extent does this save him?
From the beginning of Genesis, God warned Adam that if he sinned, he would die (Genesis.2:16–17). That is, anyone who sins will die (Romans 6:23). But anyone who believes in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection will not die but live at the appearance of Christ. (Hebrews 9:28).
Jesus himself promised that anyone who believes in him would not perish or even taste death, and he has passed from death to life (John 3:16-18). Jesus can save you unto the uttermost part, says the writer of the book of Hebrews.
Have you believed in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus? If you have not, this is the best time to believe and be saved by His life from the wrath to come.
Shalom!
