Winning Steps for the New Year: Setting Goals. (Special edition for believers in business)

“And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” Habakkuk 2:2

Annually, result-oriented executives set goals for the year. You probably agree that these goals may be quite ambitious. However, how frequently, do you give up on your New Year’s resolutions before February rolls around? If you often fail to follow through on your New Year’s goals, maybe you should reevaluate your approach to goal-setting. No matter what you’re trying to accomplish; implementing new technology in the workplace, increasing customer enrollment, decreasing attrition, and so on are winning steps essential to achieve goals. “My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:” (Proverbs 3:21)

Before taking steps to set our goals, we need to be sure they are under God’s will for us. They shouldn’t lower the standards or abandon God’s Word. There is a significant difference between saying something like “I want to build up six months of an emergency fund and then work on creating a responsible savings account to care for my family” and saying something like “I want to earn a million dollars so I feel affluent and safe.”

Before viewing your goal through scriptural glasses, you should determine its purpose. I believe that if we seek the Lord’s guidance and submit to His will before and throughout the goal-planning process, we will be amazed not only at the destination of our goals but also at the process itself. So, have you made your plans for 2026?

Create a winning plan for your business in alignment with God’s will for the year to increase the likelihood that you will achieve them. Utilize these winning steps to create winning goals and achieve more.

Dedication: Putting in a lot of time is usually required to reach a goal. We must make a concerted effort. We must create a plan and then stick to it. This means setting aside dedicated blocks of time to work toward the goal and not getting distracted or sidetracked. It’s important to be consistent, patient, and persistent to make progress. We must also be willing to accept failure, learn from mistakes and adjust our plans accordingly. All of these practices can help ensure that we successfully meet our goals and reach success.

Proverbs 22:29“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” There will be obstacles and frustrations along the way, but we must go on and ensure they are consistent with God’s word and his doctrine. It’s important to keep trying.

Planning and prep work: Did we do all the groundwork we needed to do before starting the project? Have we tallied up the price tag yet? Luke 14:28 “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? “

Resolve to complete the tasks at hand: Having a firm resolve to complete the tasks at hand is essential. Luke 9:62 says; “And Jesus said unto him, no man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” To ensure success, it is important to set clear goals and create a plan of action that outlines the steps necessary to achieve those objectives. For example, one might decide to complete a course in a certain amount of time, break the coursework into smaller achievable goals, set deadlines for those goals, and track progress along the way. Another approach could be to create a reward system and give yourself a small reward once each task has been completed. Additionally, remember to keep a positive attitude throughout the entire process. This can help to motivate and push yourself to finish strong.

Reason to get going: We have to ask the tough questions. Just what are we trying to accomplish, and why? What motivates our actions—altruism or self-interest? While it may be easy to stay motivated in the early stages of a project, it may become more tempting to give up as time passes and obstacles arise. Please follow through on your promises, the same goes for your employees and you. When things go rough, we tend to give up on our plans. A driving force is required. The brain needs to physically experience the fruits of its labors, and this includes rewards that the individual has crafted for themselves.  “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

You may guarantee that you stay on track in a variety of ways, like by locating an accountability partner. Your progress is held accountable when you report to someone else. Use visual aids to demonstrate your progress. Whiteboards and other progress tracking sheets are all useful visual aids that you may use to swiftly evaluate performance. Make use of a digital spreadsheet to monitor development from afar. With these aids, it is far less difficult to evaluate progress and much easier to justify errors and keep going. “And Jesus said unto him, no man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62)

Believe: Our God is all-knowing and able to achieve everything His heart desires. He can do everything he puts his mind to. We may trust that He is with us everywhere we go and that He is looking out for our best interests at all times. He can always be counted on and shows 100% loyalty. “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” (Mark 9:23)

Humbleness: We should never put ourselves in a position where we expect things to always go as planned. We must always be obedient to the Lord’s will. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” (1 Peter 5:6). There must be a sense of awe and reverence in our hearts when we consider God, the Holy One, and the Almighty.
