The Power and Victory of the Cross

The cross is a topic many Christain know little about, yet it carries great significance to the believer’s position in Christ. Are you a new believer seeking to explore more information about the victory of the cross? Or you probably want to grind yourself with the knowledge of how the cross helps the believer perpetually live in victory. Then read on because this article shares more insight about the power and victory of the cross for the believer.

The Power and Victory of the Cross 2

The True Meaning of the Cross:

There are several meanings to the cross, and this can be expressed in different ways as some people display it on their mantel, others wear it around their neck. For some people, the cross is just wood; for others, it is a way of punishing criminals. But for the believers, the cross is the victory of Christ. The cross demonstrates the extent to which Christ went to bring us to the father. Thus, it is safe to say that the cross is an intersection of God’s love and His justice for humanity.

What is the Significance of the Cross?

Here are some of the true meanings of the cross as a believer;

The Cross Signifies Reconciliation with the Father:

The term reconciliation means the repair of a broken relationship or hostile friendship. In other terms, reconciliation means enemies are now made friends. Humanity became an enemy of God due to the sin of our first parents (Adam and Eve). So, humanity was separated from God because of the sin of disobedience. The blockage between God and man is sin which broke our relationship with Him and brought death (Spiritual and Physical).

However, Jesus Christ, the son of God, came and took away the blockage (sin) by paying the ultimate price on the cross of Calvary. The bible says in 2 Corinthians. 5:20 that “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” Thus, the Father extends His hand of reconciliation to men with the price paid. So, the cross is the pathway that reconciles man with God.

The Cross Signifies the Love of God:

The cross shows the extent to which God loves men. Even though men rejected, mocked, beat and killed Jesus, he still died to save humanity. The death of Jesus on the cross reveals the true character of God – That is God is Love (1 John 4:8). The cross is the symbol that God has a strong affection for us, he cherishes us so much that he is willing to die for us.

Jesus taught his disciple that “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lays down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13 – 14). The cross considerably signifies that God sent His only Son to be an atoning sacrifice for us (Romans 5:8). Jesus, a God in heaven, came to earth and took the form of a human to die for us on the cross. Still, Jesus cares for sinners and wants to help them in every situation they are going through. It is because of sinners that Jesus came and sacrificed his life on the Cross. The Cross is a message of love for all those who don’t deserve it.

The Cross Signifies Victory over Sin and Death:

As a result of the finished work on the cross of cavalry, the debt of sin and death humanity owed was fully paid for (Col 2:14). Sin and death are two spiritual entities that have plagued man since the fall, but with the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, they were finally defeated (1 Cor. 15:54–55). Jesus bore the sins of humanity and died in our place on the cross; the death we are supposed to die, he took our place (Gal 3:13).

The Cross Signifies Triumph over the Devil and Evil Forces:

Aside from the victory over sin and death, the cross is where Jesus has the legal claim to triumph over the devil and his cohort. After the death of Jesus, the bible recorded that an earthquake occurred, causing the veil, which was a heavy curtain in the Temple at Jerusalem, to tear into two parts. The bible says that the power and authority of evil are put to shame by Christ’s triumph on the cross (Col. 2:14). Due to the victory, as soon as Christ is resurrected from the grave, the Father sets him at his right hand, far above every authority and power (Eph. 2:20–21).

The Cross Signifies the Divine Wisdom of God:

To the devil and ordinary men, the cross is termed foolishness. This is because they can not understand the divine wisdom at play. The natural man is quick to condemn the message of the cross as a degradation of God. According to Apostle Paul, the Jews and Gentiles consider that the message of Christ being crucified is folly (1 Cor 1:23). While the cross looks foolish and weak, it signifies how God miraculously saved man.

The Cross Signifies The Way Forward for the Believer:

As explained by Jesus Christ, the cross is the marching order for believers. The bible says, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matt 16:24). The cross is a message to believers to crucify their flesh and be alive in the spirit. The Apostle Paul says, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). Believers are called to forget about their former selves and live according to the principle of the kingdom.

In conclusion, the message of the cross does not only pay for the salvation of humanity, but it is the place where sin, death, and Satan are conquered and ushered in the dispensation of the grace of God.
