Dimension is more than often a mathematical or scientific terminology. It is regarded as a minimum number of coordinates needed to specify any point. For example, you can measure the weight of an object, the length of your clothes, your height, cooking ingredients, etc. It is quite a wonder to measure abstract items with a scale that cannot be seen, for example, love. However, the bible vividly explains that there are various dimensions of love. If you want to know more about the dimension of love, then keep on reading for more information.
There are many schools of thought about the dimensions of love. Still, the bible is the best bet when it comes to learning about the love of God. Mainly because the bible houses the best and most heard event about the greatest expression of love in humanity’s history. Love can be categorized into different dimensions. This does not mean that each axis is separate from one another. Instead, it means that the various dimensions of love work harmoniously to achieve the desired goal.
The Four Dimension of Love
The book of Ephesians clearly explains that there are four dimensions of love. You may wonder why love has a dimension or why it can be as straight as possible. As explained earlier, dimension relates to some degrees of freedom from one point to another. The reasons there are dimensions to encompass the various segments. For example, the different dimensions of love produce the cross that saves man from condemnation. Here are the four dimensions of love according to the book of Ephesians 3:17-19:
The width of love
When talking about the width of love, it simply means how wide love stretches. The width of God’s love for humanity goes beyond the borders of the world, which could not stop Him from expressing His love by sending Jesus to come and die on the cross to liberate mankind. You may be wondering how wide God’s love is? The only reasonable explanation is that it encompasses any sin, race, tribe, nationality, societal status.
God’s love covers all and accepts all, irrespective of what you may have done in the past. Because God loves you, He always gives you another chance to change and do better. It envelops sorrow, loneliness, poverty, disappointment, tragedy, and sin of every kind. It is as boundless as space, as vast as the ocean, as limitless as the sky. Thus, if you comprehend the magnitude and infinitude of that love, you too can genuinely love everybody you meet.
The Length of Love
When talking about the length of love, it simply means how far God’s love will go for you? The perfect answer is found in John 3:16. Love went to the extent of dying on the cross, surrendering His life just so we could gain life. So love goes the mile for us. But, he also went as far as living the life of a commoner here on the earth, enduring the humiliation, beatings, and pain, enduring carrying the cross and giving us life in abundance.
The Depth of Love
The Depth of love talks about the intensity of His love. How intense does God love you? What will the intensity of His love do for you? God’s love is so intense that He loves everyone without counting the cost. He doesn’t even think of whether everyone will reciprocate the love; He just keeps pouring out His love without restrains. At the time Jesus came to die, man was still far from God and didn’t even know much about the need for salvation. But God knew, and He kept coming at us with so much vigor. Each time He faced constant opposition from the same people he was coming to save. Nevertheless, He wasn’t deterred and eventually, He won us over by simply showing us how much love He had for us and the extent to which He would go to express His love towards us.
Height of Love
The height of God’s love refers to the loftiness of the character of his love, which is far beyond human weakness. The height of God’s love rises above criticisms, condemnation, and guilt. A visual representation of the height of God’s love on planet earth would be Mount Everest being the highest peak in the world. However, God’s love is higher than it, as the height of God’s love symbolizes the grace of God, which can not be measured. Instead of reaping the rewards of man’s effort, which is death. Grace and truth came and rescued man from its bottomless pit of sorrow and anguish. It is the grace of God that made even the gentiles become a partaker of the promises of God. So also, the height of God’s love has made every believer seated with Christ Jesus in heavenly places, which is far above the mires of sin, the hazes and trials of living, the sorrows of earth. His love has clothed you up with His righteousness and goodness, where you can live as gods upon the surface of the earth.
How Deep and Wide is God’s love?
God’s love is wider than anywhere you can think about (Psalm 139:7-12) and deeper than the deepest or deadliest sea. God’s love covers every aspect of our life and can not be limited by our human wisdom. Truly, nothing can separate anyone from the love of God, not even earthly circumstances, underworld orchestrations, and dreadful veracities.
Is God’s love conditional or unconditional?
God’s love, as described in the Bible, is clearly unconditional in that His love is expressed toward His people, despite the people’s disposition toward Him. In other words, God loves because His nature is to love (1 John 4:8), and that love moves Him toward a kind action. The unconditional nature of God’s love is most clearly seen in the gospel.
Conclusion
The dimensions of the love reflect how deep, tall, long and wide his love is toward mankind. The love is so vast that it covers the whole human family, regardless of social status, color, background, religion, culture, values, civilization, etc. The love is clearly expressed in the cross, death, burial, resurrection, the ascension of Jesus Christ, and the descent of the Holy Spirit.
