How To Develop Faith

Have you ever wondered why you always feel frustrated, unhappy, and confused when stagnating? The simple answer is that life is all about growth. For example, you want your career, business, marriage, children, and friendship to experience growth. So also, living a life of continuous victory and confidence depends on one thing—developing your faith.

Triumph or conquest as a Christian is dependent on your faith. Hebrews 11 records several heroes who exploited God because of their faith. They not only received the promise of God but also believed far beyond the extraordinary that they could surpass any physical limitations. However, in this article, you shall be learning how to develop your faith to receive the promises of God.

Ways to Develop Faith

God’s word is filled with countless promises for everyone in any situation. To access all the benefits laid out for you, you need to develop your faith. Not just any average faith, but the kind of faith that believes it and takes it. Here are some ways to develop your faith;

Read and ponder God’s Word:

The primary way you can grow your faith is through the study of the word of God. The bible says that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).” Therefore, you must spend quality time reading and meditating on God’s word every day to develop your faith. In situations where you stop studying his words, you begin to doubt his abilities in your life.

Reading the word of God can be likened to a man who goes to the gym every day to exercise his body/muscles to keep fit. If he stops going to the gym, it is only a matter of time as he will soon begin to grow weary, exhausted, and sick. So, when you stop studying God’s word, you will stop believing in His promises, and victory will be far from you.

Instead, you will find yourself becoming like the ten Israelite spies who came back with a negative report of how they look like grasshoppers before promises God has given to them. But, suppose you have been studying God’s word, your faith will be stirred up like the other two spots—Joshua and Caleb— who focused on God’s promise and encouraged the people, “the Lord is with us: fear them not” (Numbers 14:9).

Continuous Prayers in the Spirit:

The place of prayer for the believer can not be overlooked at any level. Praying is far more than speaking words. It is about the connection or relationship with God. Praying is communicating with your heavenly Father and expecting a reply as well. Frequently, people just close their eyes and mumble some words without expecting replies from God. Relationship with God is about communicating with God, receiving answers, and taking action. Without any of these, you will become unclear on applying what God has already revealed through His Word.

Praying builds faith because you are interacting with the Spirit of God and his communication to you strengthens your faith. When you begin to pray constantly, the word of God becomes very clear to you, and you are energized to become more like Christ. One of the best ways of praying is to pray in the Spirit. The bible says that “beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost (Jude 1:20).” If you have really prayed and communicated with God, you are empowered to believe God in another dimension.

Another way of prayer is to speak the word of God. This is considered the best form of prayer because you are saying what God is saying. However, it is important to note that you need your heart to be aligned while praying. The heart is the most crucial element in prayers, not the muttering of words. It is in your heart that you receive instructions from God.

Looking Unto Jesus:

In order to cultivate an exceptional faith, you need to begin with the following: Focus your attention on Jesus, not on anything else. Those were the actions of Hezekiah as he was on the verge of death. Hezekiah prayed to the Lord with his back to the wall, according to the bible, and he got exactly what he requested (Isaiah 38:2). The natural world will try to distract you from your faith while you’re in the midst of a difficult situation. However, when it comes to developing your faith, Jesus should be your focus. That is why you should keep your gaze on him at all times and not be distracted by the outside world.

The bible says, “looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).” So, for you to grow your faith, you need to fix your gaze on the one who can keep you, strengthen you, enable you to conquer.

Maintain a right conscience toward God:

When you live a sinful life, you will constantly have concerns about God’s ability to help you. As long as you commit secret or hidden sin, it will be difficult to claim God’s promises with trust. The bible says that “if I hold wickedness against myself, the Lord will not hear me (Psalm 66:18).” You can’t claim God’s promises and boldly approach His throne unless you’re ready for the Holy Spirit to convict you of sin. To consciously develop your faith, you need to flee from any form of sin. The bible says that every believer should forget the old man’s things.

Don’t flee your faith’s tests:

The Israelites were standing on the very boundary of the Promised Land, but they refused to enter it because they were scared of the giants who awaited them. Even though their faith was shaky, it would have been significantly reinforced had they been willing to take the next step. Similarly, there are opportunities and trials that you are currently facing. These challenges are meant to develop you for the next level.

Additionally, God brings difficult events into your lives that He plans to use to increase your faith from time to time. For example, in the book of James 1:3–4, the bible says that believers should count it all joy when they face all kinds of temptation. This is because the trial of your faith will make you stronger and build patience inside of you.

In conclusion, to become stronger and face the temptations that await you, you need to build your faith to become stronger. This article highlights different ways to strengthen your faith for daily living.
